Gear Ratios.....
Merc. is Still using the 1.98/1 in it's outdrive for the GM 4 bangers..... That hasn't changed....

If you installed that little Gem in the link, I'd think you'd Need Atleast 4" more prop......
Depending on the pitch you're turning now, You Might have to jump up to a 1.84/1 ratio outdrive gears.......
'Course I'm Guessing you've got an OMC, So, I don't know what your options are there......
if it's installed it means generally more umph
With out a Doubt, The Biggest Bang Available Anywhere for a 3.0l..........
With the Right Tuning, You Might approach 180hp or Better........

I still say it's nothing but a good old reliable tractor motor and to just enjoy the reliability these motors are famous for. Squeezing more out of it would just shorten it's life in the long run. That's pretty much true for any motor.

I worked for a dealer that specializes in high performance boats. The first thing the owner does anytime a customer wants to juice-up his motor is to make it clear that there are no guarantees except that the motor's life is guaranteed to be shorter. The more you squeeze out of it, the quicker you will go, and the quicker it'll blow.

Bondo, so what's involved in parts and dollars? Can it be done by a weekend mechanic like myself?

Check out my reply to bruce.....

I'm Seriously Thinking about it....
It would look pretty sweet in an old Donzi Sweet 16.....
But, I Don't Have a Donzi Sweet 16....
Nor do I need Another Project.....

You'd have to get Mercruiser manifolds to make it work.... then Either tie it back into the OMC exhaust, Or Dump it out the back.....
There'll be cables to route... linkages to be rigged... Fuel + Water lines to run....

"weekend mechanic"
Don't Know..... Maybe......
He!!, We'll Talk ya Through it.....
