Been looking around for a good bilge pump to replace the 400gph pump(no idea of age) that came with my boat. I came across a brand new(still in the box) Rule 1500gph pump on CL for $40 bucks.

Is Rule a reputable brand?

It is a common brand . . . I have a 21 year old 'Rule' and a brand new one in my boat. I guess we will have to wait and see if the new one lasts as long as the old one.

Just put a brand new one on my boat. 1100. Came down to boat with it just running on automatic. No water was in bilge to pump out? Had to snip auto line. Read some not so great reviews on these "newer" sensor float switches. To clarify it is not the one that tests every few minutes. Just my .02

Rule is the only brand I can think of off the top of my head.
I've got some pretty old ones, and a couple new ones on my boat. I prefer the older style float, but while I havent had a pump get stuck 'on', I've had a float stick in the off position and found 12" of water when I lifted the hatch after a day out on rough water with the houseboat.

Either case, the pumps themselves seem well built.

Going from a 400 gph pump to a 1500 gph pump, you will probably have a different size hose connection. Rule pumps are tops.
