are these signs that the timming off

hi,<br /> At idle speed runs like a champ but as the accelerator is increased the motor sounds like its running on 3 cylinders. checked plugs. one has a crack in the boot but i touched it when it was running and it didnt shock the **** out of me so thats not it. if the timming is off how can i seeif thats really it and is it hard to set..thanx

Have you tried running with the cover off? I have a V4 Evinrude that had a crack in the boot of a lower plug wire. When the cover was latched down it would rub the latch into the boot and short out that cylinder.
