I was just reading an article on colorblindness and it mentioned 1 in 10 men as being colorblind to some degree. I'm wondering how many on here are colorblind and how much that impacts boating.

Do you see all, for example, red flags as grey?
Can you tell the difference between what is a color to someone else and actual grey?

Re: Are you colorblind?

I mix up blues with greens as well as browns with grays, and all supposed purple colors look like blue to me (part of me believes purple isn't really a color:rolleyes:). Very dark greens, blues, browns & purples all look black to me. Besides that though, my vision is better than 20/20 at the ripe old age of 31.

It doesn't affect my boating though as I don't mix up green buoys with red ones, and I always know whether I'm going upriver or down. Also I have a depth finder!:D

Well, the US Navy said I was (am) not, but I dated an interior decorator for a while and she complained that I couldn't seem (to her) to tell the differences between colors with names that sounded like french food.

The Navy wanted me to be able to read color codes on electronic components and wires. Fortunately I never saw a resistor with chartruese or fusche colors on it.

Not sure how true this it but I was told that Women have a lot more cones and rods in their eyes then men. As men get older we loose some of these which makes it harder to distinguish color. Women have plenty of these so when they loose some it is not a factor. Once my Mother realized my father was color blind it became payback time. Lime green pants, orange socks where common in his wardrobe.

I am to some tints and hues of red/green. Totally colors blind (monochromatic) men are have always been highly desired by the armed services because their eyes are not fooled by camouflage.

Yes. Blue-green color blind a bit. But it only bothers me in the lighter, pale shades of blue, gray, green.

I am.... forget about seeing red apples on a green tree.

Toll booths with red and green horizontally always kills me. Especially after they have faded in the Florida sun. Then theres those damn red and green bouys. Hooray for the chart plotter.!

Since I am a painter I hope not but I do use my standard answer when people ask me what I think of their color selection "can't see it from my house":D

Nope. Get tested every couple of years during my medical for work. I didn't realize you could become colour blind as you age. I hope it doesn't happen to me as i would have to find a new career.

This is a funny subject as we have a truck at work that I see as a light blue and every one else sees gray.;)

Re: Are you colorblind?

i'm red blue colorblind, but i see both colors fine it's when they are togehter the lines between the two are fuzzy, for example a sign with red writing on a blue blackground is almost impossible to read. Asides from that i actually have 20/10 vision

Re: Are you colorblind?

Partially.

My greens and browns blend together and my blues and greens blend as well. I do not see them as grey, but it is difficult to differentiate between them.

I am an avid hunter. You would think that this would present a problem, but the wierd thing is that I think that I have become hyper sensative to movement. I find that I can spot the slightest of movement very fast, even faster than some "normal" sighted companions.

I am not, but my father was, which was very interesting because he was an upholsterer! He definitely made some odd color combos a couple times! Nobody could pattern match better than him though. :D

Sounds like an excuse for you to do the work to me. ;) JK

I am not but both my Dad and Father in Law are, so I hope it doesn't happen in the future. I didn't know that it could with age until now.
