I have a 1975 Johnson 9.9. While tuning it up, changing points, I found that the ARMATURE PLATE had a little bit of slop in it. I can move the plate laterally about 5 or 6 thousands and see the points moving also when doing this. My question is, does this movement affect performance? It seems to me that it would because the points are not opening at right time if the plate is moving. The ARMATURE PLATE is NLA for this motor and wonder if there is a fix for this kind of problem?
