I am about to purchase a four winns fling from a friend. It died on him and won't start up. That is all I know right now. I haven't had a chance to look at it but I'm thinking that it is a fuel pump or a fuel related problem. He wants to give it to me for $1000.00. Is this a good idea? Please help.
Thanks

very little info. what year, length, boat. hp, year. it died is a poor description. could be coils, powerpack, stator, fuel pump, ran hot. what's your mechanical ability and experience with the info i have to work with, the answer is, it's no idea.

The engine is a V4 crossflow with some inboard features designed to make it safe for inboard use. The gearcase, muffler, driveshaft and jet drive have nothing comparable in the outboard world. The entire setup was used by Four Winns and Boston Whaler.

You can see and download the electronics for the boat from the Four Winns website.

The engine, ignition, and basic electrons are all OMC/BRP. You can see and download the diagrams from the BRP website by selecting Turbojet in the "Products" search window:

When the fling is running properly, it is a lot of fun. To keep it that way, you absolutely have to have a model-specific OMC service manual. You can usually find the manuals on Ebay.com
