At what point should I paint?

I am in the process of replacing the floors on my boat, and then i plan on painting the boat. The stage where I am at, I have stripped almost everything except for the stringers from the hull. I was wondering if it would be easier to paint the boat now while it is essentially empty and lighter or if i should wait until i finish the floors before doing this?

Watch Out about the floor thing Vandy some folk's around here are pretty touchy about that. Decks not floors. Anyhoo painting is usualy one of the last things to do in my humble opinion. It will keep you from scratching the fresh paint while you are working on the rest of the boat. just my opinion. By the way what kind of paint are u going to use. I've got my own project started?

My boat is only 12ft.When it was empty I flipped it over and painted the hull.2 weeks wait. Then back over to do topside.Larger than that I don't know.If not many people answer go with your gut. Then you will have experience to pass on.

I would at least tack the new floor down so the hull wont get out of center. You are probably going to notice some shifting anyways just by having the deck off in the first place.

Why are you putting a floor in your boat? Most people use decks.

Re: At what point should I paint?

sorry if i offended anybody by using the word floor instead of deck.
deck
?noun
1. Nautical.
a. a floorlike surface wholly or partially occupying one level of a hull, superstructure, or deckhouse, generally cambered, and often serving as a member for strengthening the structure of a vessel.

Anyway, the boat is an 18' fiberglass boat so i don't think ill be flipping it over. As for the type of paint, I will probably be using some type of interlux paint, however i'm not sure exactly what one yet.

Wait untill you see how they react when you use "Motor" instead of "Engine"
