Hello everyone,
I need to tow a 2000 Dodge Durango that the engine is blown using a tow strap hooked up to my receiver on the back of my 1999 Chevy Silverado. I figure I will hook the loop end from the tow strap through the hitch pin with the safety pin on the Silverado side but I am not sure where I could hook the opposite end at on the 2000 Dodge Durango without tearing the front end up or tear it off and create more issues for myself besudes the blown engine getting fixed in her. Let me know:confused:

The reason I am towing the Dodge Durango is it is being towed to a repair shop to get it back in running order again.

Should be a couple of tie down loops or hooks on the front of the Durango, that they use when they transport them from the factory to the dealers, might have to look around a bit to find them, but most cars/truck now a days have them.

A tow strap is a bad idea. Rent a tow dolly or call a tow truck.

You will need someone dependable in the towed vehicle that knows how to co-ordinate the braking...this can be tricky. What I have done is use a chain rather than a strap...I run the chain through a length of pipe to keep the slack out and to help keep the towed vehicle away from the tow vehicle.

Use a strap. If there's no tie-downs, usually the anti-sway bar near one of it's mounts is pretty safe. Go slow and have someone experienced with this in the back vehicle. I usually have the CFO drive the tow car, and talk to her with a personal radio laying on the seat.

Get a tow dolly. The risk (and cost) of having the tow crash into the tower is too great.

one thing to consider. if you can't start the motor that means no power steering or brakes. trailer would be the best method but if you do use a strap take it slow and avoid the main roads.

Beat me to it. Dollies can be rented at Uhaul for a very reasonable fee. The strap method is risky and may not even be legal in your neck of the woods.

Ok seeing as how I have towed a durango I will get into this debate, I don't know what Dodge was thinking but some engineer should be tarred and feathered because the forgot tow points on that truck, I used a flatbed since I didn't want to hurt anything else on the truck so I would at the very least get a dolly. I think any 4X4 should have tow points standard, and I am not talking about the frame tow points the Tow companies use since they are useless to anyone trying to tow with another vehicle.

Get a tow truck or wrecker to pick it up and deliver it to your mechanic, maybe $75 depending on distance, and a lot better than getting hurt or tearing up some vehicles. We used to tow vehicles, but the way roads and traffic is now, probably not a good/safe idea. Good Luck!

Robert Graham and others,
I agree with you, yeap I will have a tow truck from a towing company to come pick it up and thus preventing more costly repairs I do not need to be added to. Thank you for your constructive suggestions. This is why I love this site. Take care, Bob
