Re: ATTN: BoatKid23

sorry to barge in here... :)

I was doing a search and came across a post where you said you have seen 3cyl Johnson's (maybe 35) have a problem where the water flow stops (slows) at higher speeds. You said it might be due to improper installation.
i have a 40 johsnon 1964. Runs very well except for the slowing water at higher speeds.
I am getting the repair manual and think I should maybe loke at what you say plus maybe the impeller?
Thanks for anything you can say and sorry again for barging in:)

Re: ATTN: BoatKid23

No problem brett, it did take me a while to figure out what I previously said, glad you mentioned the 35. That 35 hp, uses plastic externally mounted water pick up screens. If they're installed backwards (i.e. aft part of the screen facing forward), it will aerate the incoming water and minimize water flow to the water pump. I don't believe the 1964 40 hp uses an external screen. But you're on the right track - get the service manual and check out the water pump.

-John
