Just found a problem on my engine that could have had very serious consequences.

If you owner or service a Mercruiser 4.3L or 4.3LX manufactured between 1993 and 1996 then closely check the wiring harness where it runs under the ignition coil. The harness is quite tight as it runs under the coil then forward under the port manifold to the alternator. The harness rubs on the bottom edge of the coil and bares several wires, including the main battery feed, 'instrument' feed, fuel pump power and oil pressure sender. As the wires rub through the insulation some could short together, or to ground.

**** This presents a serious fire/explosion hazard. ****

Another possiblity is that the engine cannot be shut off.

I was fortunate in that the symptom was a dodgy oil pressure gauge. Further investigation found the real problem.

Chris...............
