I would like to add a sub to go with the 4 polk db651 speakers. I am planning to mount the sub under the passenger side dash where the factory speaker was mounted. I would like to place the amp there as well. Will that be ok? Do I need to run a seperate amp on the sub? I want something that will be easy on the battery since I have no plans to add a second. I typically do not crank the music too load when the boat is not running. Any advice?

That depends on the amp you get. Some have a dedicated chanel for subs, some don't. Look for a 4 chanel amp with a dedicated sub chanel. Also make sure that the amp has good airflow to keep it cool and I would recomend dual batts if your going to do this, amps pull allot of currant. My 2 cents.

Re: Audio advice

I definitely agree with getting a second battery. I have a Pioneer head unit with 45 watts a channel. I've got it running four Pioneer 6.5's off the head unit. I also have a 400 watt amp running four more pioneer 6.5's. I can run it all for around 2 hours before I need to start up. Given, I wasn't going for a lot of bass in my music, it sounds really balanced going down the lake. I also agree with reddog on the amp selection 4 channel makes it really versatile. For instance, on my four channel, I can select a high normal or low filter for either side. So I could run one side with with the full range sound and switch the other side to low for a couple of small subs. Also, the the louder you play your music, the more watts / volts you'll be using. I hope I made some sense!

And oh yeah, I meant to say that mounting the amp under the dash should be fine. That's where I have mine mounted. It has open access to plenty of air. I think the main thing is that it is out of direct sunlight. The high surface temp created by sunlight would most likely activate the high temp cut off switch or cook the amp. Should be fine though.
