I'm considering adding can speakers to my tower along with an amp in our 03 glastron gx185. The stock setup only had two speakers which are located under the driver and passenger dash area. That location sucks so I build some new speaker boxes near the rear bench seat and added two polk db651 speakers. That really made a huge difference in hearing the music while moving.

Now I am trying to decide when I add two speakers to the tower, should I keep the new speakers near the bench or replace the stockers in the driver and passenger dash area. I will probably stick with the polk db651 or mm651 for the tower. I think 6 speakers is probably overkill for my boat. I'm guesing the tower speakers will provide the best sound. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good amp? I don't want to drop big $$. I was looking at the JBL MA6004 4-Channel amp. Any feedback or recommendations would be appreciated.

As soon as I saw the thread title I was prepared to recommend Polk audio speakers, It was cool to see that you had already bought a set and were pleased with them. As far as a good amp, I had an Eclipse XA1000 in my last vehicle and it was a GREAT amp. I paid $100 for it used, and powered the two set of Polk DB651s I had in the truck. It's not marine rated, so you would have to put it some place dry, but I think you should do that whether the amp you get is marine rated or not. I currently have a JL 300/4 Slash series amp in my pickup, and it's also a great amp that I would suggest to anyone. However, I don't think it's leaps and bounds over the eclipse which was only a fraction the cost of the JL.

Re: audio suggestions

Another polk audio believer here! I used to do SQ and SQ+ car audio competitions, 100% of the systems I built used polk. (and 2nd place was the lowest I ever finished)

I'm still partial to old waffle iron RF amps, which is what I'm currently running both in my car and boat. My oldest amp is around 20 years old. My NEWEST RF is about 15 years old! For modern amps though, I'm starting to warm up to kenwood. If you can find them priced right, very good value for what you get.
