There are so many. Looking for input on the most effective sites for finding accurate and fair pricing for new, used, and trade in values for particular locations.
Thanks!!

Re: auto pricing websites

When I worked in the new/used car industry we used KBB and the local auction results which were published weekly.

KBB is pretty good. I don't get the deal with the Edmunds True Market Value one. That seems to be way low. Can't beat shopping Autotrader.com for seeing what vehicles are being priced at.

Bob and ez make an excellent point that I should have. Any pricing resource should be used in conjunction with comps.

For new, email the dealer's email sales/fleet sales person. Most dealers have these by now. The quote you get will be a pretty good idea of what new vehicles are selling for. The dealerships realize that customers doing business this way are very price savvy and they quote accordingly. I did this a couple years ago when I got my 08 Avalon. I got competing bids from 4 local Toyota dealers, and the quotes came back within single digit dollars of each other. Thousads less than the openining "offer" the in house sales people started with!

KBB is intentionally a little high (IMO). I think this is because people will not pay more than blue book. If you can't do better than KBB the reality is that you are paying a little too much.

Remember however that just like with boats, the older a car is the more important the upkeep is. I looked at a Grand Cherokee a few years back. The guy was telling me what a great car it was... 120,000 miles and never needed anything but brakes and tires. To me that means it will need suspension work, exhaust, radiator, etc in the near future. He wanted top dollar because of what a great car it was, I saw the situation a little differently.

I use NADA, Edmund's, and KBB to get a new vehicle price. Bought a new pickup in 08 at invoice, less incentives, less 1/2 the hold back. You will usually do better without a trade imo. Have fun shopping.

Not sure what you're shopping for but one interesting thing I encountered when we bought our new Honda last year was that some dealers will sell you a HondaCare extended warranty online same as they would a set of mudflaps. I ended up getting a 6yr 120k warranty for our Accord for $800 from some dealer in RI. Jack@ss guy at our local dealer wanted $1600 for the same thing! When I showed him the paperwork he offered it for $900. I told him to go pound sand and wouldn't even give him $801.

If you use KBB, you MUST use "Private Party Value" if you are looking to sell your vehicle. Or buy from a individual. You should read the "disclaimer" for all the stuff included in the "Dealer" values on KBB. In fact, if you are buying a used car from a Dealer, without a trade in, you want to use "Private Party" value,a nd not "dealer". In "dealer" value among the things they include are markup to allow for taking a "worthless" vehicle on trade.
Nada is a good site too.
