I have a 1979 90 HP Mercury Inline 6 Outboard. It came on a 16.5' 1979 Crestliner Appolo Bowrider when I bought the boat last year, but I doubt it was the original motor. I have purchased an Autoblend system because the boat orginally had a fuel cell, but it was removed and I was mixing gas 5 gallons at a time (which sucked)... You can view the Autoblend at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2489320899&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:6

Do you know if this thing will work if I reinstall the tank and put this inline? My motor manual suggests not doing this on motors that were not equipped (but this one may have been, I don't know). The Manual also shows a simple installation of the wiring, red wire to positive, black to Negative!? It can't be that simple can it?!?!

Re: Autoblend

Just for peace of mind I had the VRO taken off my motor and I now premix. If this was not originally on the motor in 1979 ( which they werent) then I would not do it.

Re: Autoblend

What's so hard about pre-mixing ??? If it's using that much fuel, you have to fill it up oftenanyway, might as well add the oil.
Like Nathan in Arkansas said.. "The peace of mind " thing works for me.

Re: Autoblend

Sorry Bob,

I'm lining up with the rest of them. I routinely REMOVE the autoblend from later year inline 6's. If it ever fails, your Tower of Power will become another scrap Pile of Pistons.

All you do to "mix" is add the oil 1st and then pump the gas. The gas swirling in will do enough mixing.

-W

Re: Autoblend

And now that I looked at the ebay item, I would for sure mix my own...

Re: Autoblend

The autoblend has been NLA for years, so I assume you've found a used one somewhere. I've found them to be quite reliable, but doubt I'd risk anything questionable on oil/fuel delivery. Mix is one pint per six gallons fuel. More oil is not better. Good oil is.

Re: Autoblend

As for oil - the best "bang for the buck" is Pennzoil Synthetic Blend. At about $9.90 a gallon.

-W
