Hey guys (and girls), I'm looking for help finding a float switch (or something that does the same job) that simply will not break.

I run mine manual because the boat is trailered but my Dad and a bunch of his friends seem to have the same experience - the darn things always break, either the wires come apart at the float or they simply stop working.

Whatever the reason they don't last. The mercury ones are pretty expensive where Dad lives (Honduras) and I was hoping to take him down a good one next visit if I can find one. Ideas?....

Re: automatic bilge pump switch

I really like the SensaSwitch from MSC corp. No moving parts, fully enclosed.

http://www.msc-emd.com/sensaswitch.shtml

May not work for all boats; turns on when the water is 2-in deep and off when the water pumps down to 3/4-in. So if 1 1/2-in of water in the bilge will ruin your day, the SensaSwitch isn't for you.

Personaly I like the pumps with the built in Float switch, the "contained" nature of them makes them less prone to damage, and since you are installing them as a unit there is less chance of acidental damage by the user/installer.

But on the same note, make sure that it's one that actualy has a FLOAT, not that 'tests' periodicaly for a load, the 'testers' will wear your batteries out when you least expect it.

Best of luck!!
CC
