Hey all,

I have a 2006 Lowe Fish & Ski 17' Aluminum Deep Vee Hull boat.

Right now it has a manual retractable antenna installed, that is a pain to operate, because you have to stand up, reach over the windshield, and grab a tiny little tip.

I would really like to install an Automatic Antenna that will pop up when I turn the radio on, and go down when I turn the radio off.

I figure one for a car would work, since obviously they are exposed to water.

Where it is installed, there is a fair amount of room.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Does anyone have such an antenna on their boat?

I'd like to get one as quiet as possible (I'm not sure how loud they are)

Thanks for the input.

the outomatic antennas on the newer cars are fairly quiet. go to pic and pull and find one you like. you'll probably have to run a ground wire to it though. I run a hidden antenna in my boat. it goes under the dash and the two wires spread out like your stereo at home. I got mine off of ebay for $11 shipped. it works fine for my needs.d:)

I use the Rubber Ducky antenna like Tash showed. Works great for me and it's easy to unscrew the whole rubber part if nessesary (For putting a boat cover on)...

Of course you ARE referring to your AM / FM broadcast radio, and not a VHF Marine two-way radio, since those rubber ducky antenna's wouldn't be a decent match for a VHF transmitter; which would mean RF ERP problems; and the coaxial RF connector would be a little difficult to interface ...

I had one of those automatic antennas on my 21' jet boat when I had it back in the 80s. It was one of the automatic thin metal types and worked great.

In fact, I still have the antenna and was thinking about putting it on my current boat. Being that the antenna motor was under the dash it was really pretty quiet.

Go to the junk yard and pull one out of a high end car! It should be quiet ...
