auxillary electric fuel pump?

I have a 1990 Bayliner 2755 with a 7.4 Bravo 1. It is unused for several weeks at a time. The carburetor dries out so it takes a lot of cranking to pump fuel into the carb to start. I am considering installing an electric fuel pump in line between the tank and mechanical fuel pump to prime the system after long lay ups. Will the electric pump push fuel through the mechanical pump? Will the mechanical pump pull fuel through the electric pump when it is shut off? Any advise is welcome.

Thanks, Jim

Re: auxillary electric fuel pump?

I'm no engine expert but a second pump shouldn't be necessary. My '97 Mercruiser 5.7 Alpha 1 sits for weeks or even months between starts. I pump the throttle a few times and it fires right up. If yours won't I'd look for the problem and fix that instead of a band-aid extra pump.
