Hello, first of all I am newbie here!

I would like to ask you your thougths about this idea that I have:
I already have a great running 1977 Evinrude 25hp Motor mounted on my 14' 1986 Sea Nymph. The motor does have a "release" to allow for manual tilt, but there is no locking mechanism to keep the motor up. When launching the boat in shallow areas, I really need a way to keep that motor up. I dont really want to invest in an expensive CNC tilt/trim option, so what about mounting an auxillary outboard bracket that supports locking into position once the proper height has been achieved?

Thanks in advance.....Frey

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. You would change your whole center of gravity and the performance would probably be crap when you run it.

I had the same issue years ago when i installed a kicker that had no tilt lock. Drill a small hole in the back of the cowl and install a SS I-bolt. Install a matching one on the transom. Connect the 2 with a cable with snaps on each end. Or, if you're real thrifty use a washline.....LOL. It'll be better and save you a couple hundred bucks for the bracket.

Or, if you really want to be thrifty, borrow a wrench and tighten the tilt pin nut and it'lll stay up all by itself good enough for launching.

Thanks Jim....This is great feedback, I did not consider the change in performance! I do have an alternative plan which includes something like you mentioned, only slightly more discrete (it does include and eye bolt and cabling tho! LOL...)

Thanks again!

Thanks guys. I decided not to go this route and fabricate my own bracket to prop the motor up. I made something like this and it is working great!
