Hello,
I just purchased this boat with a 3hp motor. Took it out last weekend and all went well. I have added a 3/8 ply floor which I will test tomorrow. I was wondering if I put a noodle under the ply floor to make a keel, how would it work? Also was thinking of trying a 9hp since I have added the floor for strength etc... What are your thoughts...

If that sib has a flat floor fabric, you cannot place a inflatable keel under wooden floors because you need floor fabric to have enough clearance to form a deep V once keel is inflated. If placing other stuff will have a mini, mini keel with same floor problem which won't better performance a bit. It's the nature of the goofing around beast.

9hp on a boat without a transom? Go for it, "Hold my beer and watch this!" Please take video and post it on youtube, like the guy that way overpowered a small aluminum boat. Do wear a lifejacket though cause we wouldn't want you to die.

OK points well taken. Im adding a tiller extension and try sitting in the middle. I hope I get better performance. Anyone run one of these with a 5 or 6 hp? Thanks for the input

Don't place more of the HP rated for that small sib, engine mount tends to rock along with stern no matter how well you have the little beast inflated to and more weight on engine mount no good. Will not perform same as having a factory built transom resting against rear tubes.

That design is a non planing design. If you want a larger motor, you need a different boat design. The one you have is designed to move heavy loads at slow speed.

I have the 12' version of this boat I bought a 6hp johnson two stroke do you think it will plain out? I to built a plywood floor

Welcome to the forums,

Is that a wooden slatted or air floor deck ? if air deck will need to pump that floor and tubes to it's max recommended working pressure to achieve best engine mount rigidity in order to perfom as expected. If it will plane or not will depend entirely on your weight and sib's total load. Try sitting near middle deck, full wot and.., a sib with inflatable keel will plane faster than a flat bottom one, more hull drag issues to overcome. Good Luck.

How wide did you make the floor? I want to do the same thing I am concerned about being to close to the tube floor web
