axle repair

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew what the average cost was of getting an axle straightned. I've got a 90 18ft bayliner with a 115 Merc on a single axle trailer. Seems somewhere, somehow, my axle has swayed in the middle, and it is now causing it to eat away at the inside of the tires. Would a new axle be cheaper? Thanks for any help.

Re: axle repair

Hey, Kev. Measure the spring center to spring center distance and replace the axle. You can get a new one, including new hubs and bearings if you want, at a trailer supply, farm supply or similar store, or you can order one from www.championtrailers.com or 1-800-229-6690. Expect to pay between $100 and $200 depending on size, hubs, galvanization, etc. If you don't already have them, you will need a couple of good jack stands and a can of penetrating oil. It is not a difficult job.

Red sky at night. . .
JB

Thanks JB, I'll look into that. I was considering a repair, but it's about half as much as new.
