Long story short, spindle end where outer bearing sits got severely worn. I can't find any place local who will replace just the spindle (either because they don't, or don't want the liability).

FYI, it's a ~1986 Shore-Landr trailer with a Four Winns 170 17' bowrider, single axle, 3500#, hub-hub 86", spring center 71", 2" drop axle, with leaf springs on top of the axle.

So i'm looking at a new axle... I can only find straight axles, and 4" drop axles. This one is a 2" drop (and has two "different" sized spindles... so one was replaced before).

If I go with a 4" drop, it would shove the wheels too far up into fenders. So go with a straight axle and it'll be 2" lower than fenders (thus, riding 2" higher)?

Argh... I want to get the boat in the water!

I would go with a straight axle, it isn't going to kill you dunking the boat into the water another foot and it isn't going to hurt anything having another 2"s clearance in the wheel wells. Its just not worth the pain get a straight axle and forget about it.

I'm seriously surprised you can't find any welding shop to replace the actual spindles on the setup you have now. I mean it isn't rocket surgery... That would be your absolute best bet in my opinion. Then nothing has to change...
