I have a 1995 21? Kingfisher center console with a galvanized tandem axle trailer. This past weekend I pulled the boat out to do the monthly engine run and noticed that on the front axle one of the tires is bowed in at the top. I can only assume that the axle is about to break. So never had to deal with an axle I have several questions. I know it?s a straight 2? x 2? axle.
1) How do I determine what load capacity I need 2500 or 3500 lbs?
2) Are the spindles pretty much standard size for a 5 lug hub?
3) If not standard size how do I determine the size?
4) Should I change both axles?
5) I have buddy bearings on now and don?t like how it slings grease all over the wheel. Are there some other systems to look into?
6) Who makes the better axle?s and how do I need to say away from?
Thanks,
Robert

Re: Axle ???

First thing I would do is jack the trailer up and check if there is any play in the bearings. They may be loose and that could allow the tire to look like it is leaning in. If thats the case, pull the hub and check the nut that holds the bearings/hub in place. If you do find the nut loose, pull the bearings and hub and check it all out. You may have a bent axle or something else causing the problem but check the simple stuff first. Good luck, hope it's nothing major.
