Again, just a newby here, so if this is a stupid question or one that has been asked a million times I apologize in advance! Anyway, is it possible to swap out a 3.0l Mercruiser for a 3.7l Mercruiser? If so what would be the advantages/disadvantages, if any, other than bore/stroke?

Going from a 3.0 to a 3.7 ???? ABSOLUTELY NOT - NO ADVANTAGE!!!!!!!! Oh the horror  Do your homework on the 3.7

I would rather stick sharp objects into my eyes.

You will need to swap the drive also if you do it. The ratio is different.

To the OP...just in case you might be thinking that Bob is being hateful...he is not! He is telling the God's truth...the boating gospel! You are a glutton for punishment of the highest degree if you think a 3.7 is an engine worth swapping for. My God, there are so many other alternatives!

Would a 4.3l be an option? I dont believe there is that much of a weight diff, is there?

Re: engine swap question[b/]

The problem is that with any swap to something larger you will need to change the outdrive gear ratio, which usually means added expense, and in addition you would need a fully dressed engine and need to fabricate new new mounting points for your front mounts. The 4.3 would be about 200 pounds heavier.

Unless this boat is special to you I would just sell it and get a boat with the engine you want. The work involved and price of the parts you will need to do a swap will be way too much to make it worth it.

That's what I was wondering if it were financially smart or not.

On a lighter note, the v8 in a focus really isn't that hard. There is a company that makes the kit to put a carbed 5.0L in without alot of head ache and not price prohibited. Makes a hell of a sleeper!

Anyway, thanks for the info.
