[B]Johnson Control Cables Help[/B]

I have a 1978 85 Horse Johnson and a 1979 Johnson control box. The control cables are shot and they were off the 79 and I need to order new ones. Everything I read says that they have different ends 78 and older vs 79 and newer. I looks like the only difference is on the control box end in all the pics I can find.
Will the cables for the 79 fit the 78 engine?

Cables were changed for '79; but things could have been "re-engineered" on your boat to make work.
