Hi Guy's after hibernating most of the winter I am sloooowly getting back to finishing up the restore

I do have a few questions ?
I am planning on putting the out drive back (omc cobra) on 4.3ltr
and was wondering if it is necessary to use any gasket lube or sealer or anything ?

Or should I just clean very well and put the new gaskets on

What position should the shifter be in when putting the out drive back on ?

any other pitfalls to look out for ?

The engine is already aligned and the shaft has been cleaned and lubed

Thank you

Sealer on the gasket both sides, a little sealer in the o-ring grove is recomended also.
Shifter in neutral, drive also in neutral, it's good to check the alignment of the shifting lever on the transom bracket to the shift rod fork on the drive, this alignment must be absolutely perfect for positive shifts.
Check the photos I posted here.

Aviation sealer is a good alternative to the OMC stuff, it comes in a bottle with a little brush.
Use the brush-on sealant on the threaded studs.
