Back firing

So, just getting my 06 350 mpi back in the water after 2 years of a transom asy rebuild-/repair. So first attempt I had a bad trim actuator and power steering leaked all the fluid and burned up the pump. Do, after those repairs back to the water today. Getting the boat going, I pretty much had to peg it to get it to plane out and it was slightly surging and not quite opening up- and really started back firing. Do after I ran it a bit, it would plane out easier at less throttle and was not backfiring. Admriial was to call sea tow and had an estingusier in each hand so did not open it up again. I put fresh gas in . Boat has 300 hours, plugs 200. Arestor I don't think has ever been cleaned. Plug wires are probably original....just need to run it some more? Don't like that,!

Check the Diz cap or replace. A well known weak point. If you are clear of water for sure, especially.

Yes....but what puzzels me is the first run I had not added any new fuel and it was not doing that...probably doubled the fuel in the tank with new and get the back fire. As long as I did not peg it, it ran fine. I will clean the arestor, which needs to be done anyway and keep running fuel through it and see where I land...don't want any fires!

Back fire at high rpm is lean fuel mix, so system is not giving motor enough fuel, or bad fuel (not enough burnable fuel to burn).

Whit it doing well first time out, then maybe filter getting clogged, pump getting weak, restriction somewhere in the system

I will keep burning gas...did not do it at lower rpm which would support what your saying for sure...I just did replace fuel water separator and the fuel filter. I will replace them again if it continues....may even have one of them extra ready to go so it can't hurt vs. burning up a motor!

Get a gauge on the fuel rail to see what your pressure is

I will have to look into that..don't have the gauge and would not know how to use it if I did.
so, also on this run the power steering felt really good- don't think it ever worked that well. By the end of the run it started feeling tighter and a little jerky and assumed it had leaked fluid again. Just checked it and it's right where it should be. When it hand grenades before I had fluid all over. When I pulled the boat after the run had some fluid come out...wonder if this just drained from the front of the boat? The Rams in the steering head , one was a little greasy but nothing around it was wet...
Where can I get direction on the fuel pressure?

The fluid should not boil out, might not have enough and is getting hot :noidea:

Fuel pressure just needs to be screwed into the shrader valve (like bicycle tire) on the rail. I could tell you where to connect the gauge which you could get from the local auto parts store and rent it.

but ...................................... you WILL NOT TELL US WHAT THE HE double hockey sticks your working ON. We always have to ask you or go look at your other threads

Will you please ........................... put your motor and at least the dang year in your signature, please,

It is not hard and if you don't know how just ask

OK- I tried to do that will see if it posts,.....can my PS be air in the system? I read about an elaborate way to bleed it and then others say just turn the wheel back and forth and it will bleed it self out?>?

So I went into the my profile and added boats I have had...see no where that say "signature" but none of what I did put in appear in this post....350 MPI 2005

The PS does not need bleeding, it does it on its own just using it. If its foaming, you either are low on fluid or somehow air is getting in
