I have 1985 merc 200hp ser# 6625329. Have had the same problems everyone else has had. Intermittent beeping hit it, it quits. Replaced module, idled past no wake bouys gave it the gas, about an 1/8 mile later, here we go again, beep,beep,beep.... I understand it compares the signal from the 3 wire hall switch to the outboard switch box(#4 cyl). My question is, can the comparison be made to say #6, or is this strictly a timing signal that can only be in sync with #4?? This would eliminate purchasing a switch box, right? If the problem persists. (2) Second question is everyone talks about plugging the shaft hole and the lines, but what about the warning module? You still want overheat warning! Do you simply disconnect the switch box signal? I purchased a Clymer manual, doesn't really cover wiring for this motor exactly.

Re: back to this warning module

Yes beep beep beep is your oil alarm, if you plug the system and pre-mix you can disconnect the module. You should have a wire under the top spark plug on the drivers side, this is the wire for the overheat horn. You can ground this wire and you should get the horn. Just a test to see if it is working. Don't run the motor with the horn or it will cost you big. Plugging the system cost about 20 bones. I did it with my 85 150 merc. Had the same problem with the oil horn, intermittent beeping. Good luck and let us know.<br />CU
