I was reading a post in this forum about what type of fuel to use when I realized that the shop that I purchased a 115hp 1973 Johnson rebuild from told me to use 93 octane. Some replies to the post say to use no more than 89 octane; of course it depends on the motor year. What type of fuel and what type of oil should I use?
The shop also told me to use 50:1 during break-in. I'm using 24:1 of course, but do you think that the manufacture is trying to cover their 15 month warranty?
I've heard that people call for their warranty when their plugs foul (they do not realize that the 24:1 causes this), so the rebuild guys tell them to run 50:1. Bad for the long run, but OK for the first 15 months.
I purchased the rebuild through iboats.com
