Bad carburator float or float valve, Solex AQ171A

I was pumping gas to carburators with manual pump and noticed gas spraying inside carbs. First I was thinking about valve but float can be bad giving same problem. Did you guys have same problem? Is it safe to remove float w/o removing carburator? If this is valve problem is it bad needle or seat?

What your doing sounds normal for that carb, if you push the linkage manualy it should spray gas. Yes, you can remove the top of the carb to get to the float, but why would you want to? What symptoms are you trying to correct? BTW, that is a simple carb to rebuild or just clean to correct problems.

I was pumping gas with rubber pump for starting outboard engines. Thanks for responce

There should NOT be any gas comeing out when your useing a with manual pump

Why are you useing a manual pump ? the motor fuel pump should keep the carb full unless there is a probem with the system

That engine has a constant pressure fuel pump, about 2 psi, there should not be a manual pump and if there is you should not use it. Sounds like the previous owner replaced the fuel line with a outboard hose:%. You really need to have someone go over that boat with you who has experience.

I hooked up manual pump temporarily because engine was not started for about 2 years. Another reason I didn't know open position for fuel valves near metal fuel filter. I still don't know why 2 hoses go to filter, one of them is clear. This is 83 Proline, there is no way to buy manual.

You can but a manual for the AQ motor which will have the correct way to repiar the fuel system
