Hello everyone! Here's my problem... I have a mercruiser 5.7 350 with the mercury binnacle style console mount controls with trim switch. Sometimes when I shift into gear and I try to go back to neutral, the neutral position is no longer at the center, it has moved further back towards the reverse position. Basically, the shifting on the controls keeps changing neutral positions. Could this be the control box is bad or shift cables need to be replaced? Hope I explained myself correctly. Thank you.

Your problem would be in the control box it self. Something is loose/broke and needs adjusting/replacement

As long as your are chasing things I would pull the control box and give it a little love in the form of White Grease at the friction/wear points. It you are having to chase N I would lean more toward a cable issue.
