A ring broke and caused the sleve to spin. Can the sleve spin? I have herd that in some cases Johnson did not set the sleves correctly befor poring the block and the ports do not line up. To some it my look like the sleve has spun. Does anyone know if this is true. Also how much should the machine shop charge to insert a new sleve, and how much to rebuild the motor. Is it ok to use the other five pistons if new rigs are installed.

'afternoon RickR,

Resleeving ought not be a big problem. Many machine shops can handle it. Check around. Prices will vary, some will re-sleeve for about $100 per cylinder, others will be closer to $200. Some that specialize in outboard repair may even have the sleeve that you need but may charge more for material and labor. But any way you look at it, it'll be cheaper then a new block or motor.

There are may aftermarket suppliers for outboard sleeves. Here are a couple:

http://www.lasleeve.com/
http://www.precisionmfgsales.com./marineparts.htm

And yes, as long as you've got it torn down, re-ring the other pistons.

Sorry, don't know your particular motor so cannot address the sleeve "spinning" issue.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN
