Hi Folks,

Commissioned our boat late this year...just got it running this weekend. Was welcomed to the new season with bad gas.

Engine started, but immediately stalled. Could get a couple revs but stalled every time. I changed the water separating fuel filter last year and used it very little, so didn't change it this year.

Took that off and found some slime in the center section. Then took out the inline screen at the carb (Rochester 4bbl) and it was loaded with slime.

Pulled a gas sample and it showed separated fuel...looked like just gas and ethanol/wafer....no pure water in the bottom.

Started the engine with fresh gas from a can, and runs like normal. Runs smooth and idles fine.

Drained 17gal of old fuel. Refilled with fresh ethanol-free gas and changed filters and now it runs great.

Question is....anything else I should do to cleanup the old fuel problem?

I don't really want to pull my sending unit and can't reach in to clean the tank anyway. Pretty sure I got all the old gas out...I drove one wheel of the trailer up on a ramp and parked it downhill to get all gas to the end of the filler at the front of the tank...and probed around until I got no more, using an electric fuel pump.

I have a suspiciously full bottle of Stabil in my garage....I think I forgot to stabilize the remaining fuel last year. Of course will do that this year...

Thanks!
