Bad Fuel?

Hi guys. I have a '97 rinker rocket with 120 sport jet. Added 1/2 tank of gas to full. Had it on water for 3hours.... ran like a dream full out at around 35. As fuel level dropped to just under 1/2 tank, it simply would not get up and go. Im thinking bad gas in tank. When I top it off.. im running well with fresh fuel until it drops. Does this sound correct. If so, How can I drain tank without it being a major pain? Also, could bad gas account for an almost total lack of get up and go? I got caught in big rain storm and had to pretty much run just above idle all the way back to ramp! Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I doubt that has anything to do with bad gas. The gas would be pretty well mixed after 3 hours on the water.

Im thiinking along the lines of is the fuel pump able to pick up the fuel from the tank as it becomes increasingly empty, possibly due to air leak on the inlet side?

Is the vent in your fuel cap blocked?

I would agree. The fuel pickup is in the bottom of the tank so if the fuel hadn't mixed it would have been picking up the old fuel first, but as was said after 3 hrs, it's probably well mixed. Look for some other problem. Clogged filter? weak fuel pump, If you have an anti-siphon valve is it clogged?

Re: Bad Fuel?

Thanks to both of you for responding. I believe you are on the right track.
It didnt make sense that it ran well with only half new/ half old gas. I will investigate these avenues.. Thanks again for replying quickly !
