So I just got this boat 95’ Glastron ssv19 w/4.3, didn’t test drive it, only had water muffs hooked up, so now I’ve got outdrive in small barrel of water, started it for first time at home and it’s not squirting out any water. Water intake holes are submerged.
I disconnected a water line when replacing a spark plug only a small amount of water came out of hose, not sure if that would cause any thing just thought I’d mention it.
I might of let it run for a couple minutes like this hoping water would start spitting out, reved engine a little to see if that would help but nothing.

There is no way you can get a bucket to work unless the bucket is big enough to put the whole boat in. The pumps need to be submerged to prime

If your impeller wasnt toast before, it is now. And probably your exhaust flappers and exhaust hoses too

Jeez what idiot I AM, goes to show I don’t know Jack about this stuff, thought the only water intake were those holes on side of drive.
So what now? Need to inspect impeller right?
so what’s a good sign that the flappers and exhaust hoses are damaged?

the impeller is half-way up the drive, the whole drive needs to be submerged to prime the pump. the water intake holes also force water in when going forward

this is why they sell muffs to put on the end of the hose to run your motor on land

no, there is no inspecting at this point. you pull the drive off and apart and you replace the impeller (and probably the housing)

as for the exhaust hoses and flappers, pull them to inspect. however they are rubber parts with a melting point of 250 degrees and the exhaust without water flowing thru it is about 900 degrees.

the inside of the rubber hoses can last about 15 seconds or so without water. same with flappers. after that, the rubber gets burned just like you were to take a torch to it.

Good news I suppose, impeller looked good, didn't look like it is ready to break apart, still pliable and no grooves in housing or discoloration, have new one on order though, still yet to check exhaust flappers and hoses haven't researched how to do that yet. thank you scott your help much appreciated.

can someone tell me what this reservoir is for? thank you 23_9.jpg

That's the drive lube reservoir. There will be a min and max level lines on it. Also has a low level switch to set off an alarm if it gets low.

Ahh, thank you maybe that’s the alarm that’s going off now, oil does look low in res. As I was not sure what alarm could be for, gauges are reading good, if everything is working correctly what things would set off the alarm besides that? Oil pressure, water temp? I don’t recall the alarm sounding when I first checked the boat out few weeks ago.
