Bad impellor?

I just bought a boat with a 65 hp mercury outboard. When running in water, water drips out of the tell-tale(no stream). When running out of water with a motor flush, I get a steady stream out the tell-tale. I'm new to boats, but i figure that the water press. from the hose is whats causing the stream, not the water pump itself. Could this be a bad impellor, or does it sound like the pump is bad? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Hi TDP<br /> Yes this sounds like you need to replace the water pump empeller. If you just bought this rig there are several things you should check and service. Operating a used outboard with out a good going over is like wearing someone elses dirty underwear. Outboard empellers are standard annual service parts. They only cost $15.-$20. so it's not worth taking a chance with them.

The differences may have a lot to do with the thermostat and engine temperature too.
