bad starter solenoid ??

I tried starting up the boat yesterday with no luck. It has worked great in the past but it has been sitting for a couple of months.

The solenoid clicks but the starter does not turn. I have 12.9 volts at the incoming connection at the solenoid form the battery. When I place the key to the start position, the solenoid clicks but there is no voltage going to the starter.

Could the solenoid go bad even though it clicks?
Does any one have a schematic for the other connections at the solenoid?

Have you taken a voltage reading when you are trying to start the boat? If you have and it is still good voltage then it is probably the solenoid. Most solenoids just electrically pull in a plunger that make another contact that goes to the starter. I am not familiar with that particular started but that is how most work. You should be able to just pull the solenoid and test it to see if it is making a connection.

Before changing things have that battery load tested; you may have 12.9 volts and almost zero under load.

Check all your connections and make sure all are clean. You can also put direct juice from that battery to the starter and see, if the battery is good under load. If it starts good by running directly to the starter, then I would say your issues are with the solenoid and switch.

So, according to what you are saying, you have 12.9 volts at the battery to solenoid connection, but no voltage at the solenoid to starter connection (both tests while it is "clicked"). That says bad solenoid. However, if that 12.9 at the battery side disappears when it is "clicked", that says bad battery cable or connection.
