bad steering

I replaced the outdrive on my 1984 conroy x19, Ive never had it in the water as I just bought it ,the problem is when I put it in the water the steering is backwards ,I dont want to sound dumb ,but how can I fix this. p.s. the outdrive is a omc 800 stringer.thanks for your help.

On a right-hand drive boat, with rack and pinon steering, the rack should be on top of the pinon. Look at the business end of the steering wheel and see how the rack is mounted.

when I replaced the old cracked steering ,is it possible to get it to steer *** backwards.

What type of steering did you install?? Like Chris said above if it is rack and pinion just put the rack on the other side of the pinion, to change direction.
