Guys, need help here. Motor is 1973 Mercury 20HP. the top cylinder is not firing. switched wires of the two coils and the bottom would not fire. so I believe the coils are OK, the plug wires are OK. Now is it a problem with the switch box or even upward a bad stator or trigger? How do I test it?
From what I understand, if one cyl has spark, the stator should be fine, could be the corresponding trigger or switch not functioning. If this is the case, can I swap the switch box input wires from trigger to check if the trigger is working properly? If the problem still remains should be a bad switch box if problem follows to the other cyl should be a bad trigger?
One more thing to add, the top cyl is not completely dead to me because when the engine is running it fires for a short time and when I do spark test, I did see some sparks one time.
