Tried searching and FAQs and didn't come up with anything yet. I have one of those old single line metal Cruise a Day tanks with my '68 6 hp fisherman. Bought a new fuel hose last year, motor ran great. But always seemed to leak a little around the tank connector. Normally I put the full 6 gallons of mix in the tank, many years just use a fraction of it, so this year I just mixed up 2 gallons. Now the hose won't prime. We struggled with it by pumping like crazy, sloshing the fuel around, etc. Eventually I could feel a little fuel going through. So the motor started right up then, but only ran for 5 minutes and we could never get it to prime again. I checked for leaks in the line, cracks in the bulb, even cut off one connector that was a little loose and re-secured it. No dice.
The connector at the tank never seems to seat tightly, it's held out a fraction of an inch by the tank receptacle or connector. But it always ran fine like that before--with a full tank. Is the pickup tube possible leaking or somehow defective? Can I remove the screws from the tanks and pull that whole unit out? If so, what am I looking for? Any suggestions appreciated. Forgot to mention the tank is perfectly clean and absolutely rust-free.
