Boats is listed below. I'm thinking it's time for a new u-joint as I'm getting a good rumble when I turn either left or right on-plane. I've owned the boat 12 years and have never had the lower unit off, though always maintained with yearly fluid change and grease.

I am wondering though if this might be related. Very difficult to get into reverse as of late, though this only seems to happen at the start of the day. When first put into reverse, gear doesn't catch, as I hear a grinding. I have checked drain plug and there seems plenty of gear oil and NO shavings at all on magnet. After I run it a bit (pulling a tuber), it has no problem going into reverse. Adjusted shift linkage at beginning of season and have had no problems up until this past week.

Could these two issue be related, or not?

Thanks for considering!

Dont believe in periodic maintance, huh.
Start with pulling the drive, will most likely be difficult and will most likely come out with the gimbal bearing attached(rusted to it) replace all rubber components. very overdue.
Replace shift cable. check engine alignment.

Drive it till it pukes and it will cost you way more then annual maintenance.
