I am new to pontoons and this forum. All my boating thus far has been jetskis. I have come across a 22ft Sun Tracker with the 3.0L MerCruiser. its a 2005. apparently there is a tear in the rubber that seals the engine. i think this is called the ?baffle?. the owner states that it will take on water if you drive too fast. how hard is this to repair? is it a DIY job or best left for mechanics. i have tons of experience with my skis doing the work myself but i've never owned a boat. the boat is docked at a lake with no trailer so i don't know how i would get it out of the water if necessary. there are marinas about if i need professional help.

thanks.

Re: Baffle??

It is either a bellow or a stuffing box, your question is best answered in the 'inboard/sterndrive' section. The guys there will steer you in the right direction.

Re: Baffle??

There is a "baffle" in the exhaust but that would not effect the engine at high speed.

I think I'd get a clarification on what they are talking about.

Re: Baffle??

An I/O on a pontoon sits in a very low positiion and requires an enclosed compartment. There are seals that keep water out of the engine bay. Perhaps that's what he means by baffle. A better term is probably "seal".
