Baffled by Carb

I ordered the kit to rebuild my carb, got it, looked at all the schematics for my carb while waiting for it. Got the kit, and started trying to match up all the parts to the schematics, got a little scared by all the extra parts in the kit as compared to the drawings. I pulled the carb off and found that the drawings were exactly right and there are only a few parts besides the orifices. Am I missing something or do they send extra parts so that the kit will fit various carbs?

Re: Baffled by Carb

Sometimes carb kits (and other part kits) have extra parts to allow it to fit more applications. For example, Mercury waterpump repair kits come with several large O rings, and several gaskets. Each motor needs only one of the o rings and two of the gaskets. The rest are not needed by that particular motor.

if you give specific part numbers and motor numbers, someone here might know the exact answer.

I know for the 90hp v4 crossflows, the carb kits come with gaskets for both pre and post 1982 models...and some other little parts as well. I think they just throw everything in that covers the model/year range. Some model years had part change-outs mid-year.
