Baffling serial number / model identification problem

I have read and read all I can about identifying the model for my Mercruiser engine and leg, but I keep coming up with conflicting information. If someone could set me straight on this, I would appreciated it.

First off, photos and identifying numbers. Here is a photo of the leg:

And the serial number of the prop:

And a serial number (A306519) found on the engine:

And a photo of the engine:

I also have another engine marking: "Firing Order: 18436572"

The serial number plate seems to be missing from the engine. It had a major replacement of parts about 5 years ago and may have not been reattached during assembly. But I have two other historical records of the engine serial number, although I cannot verify the authenticity. Since there are conflicts, something is not right. One is from the dealer: "1983 Mercruiser serial number 9077192" and one is on the insurance "1984 Mercruiser Stern Drive 6936610".

I do specifically remember the engine when we bought the boat new around 1984 and the air filter had a "230" sticker on it, subsequently gone.

Looking all these numbers up I get an engine from 1982, 1984 1985 and a leg that could be an MC1 1.50 R/MR Alpha One, but then the database says MR etc.

I give up. Its all too confusing! The photos of the leg make it appear to me an R, MR, Alpha I (1983+) but the DB returns MC-1 (1982).

It is making it very hard when I want to source a prop based upon gear ratios.

Re: Baffling serial number / model identification problem

Drive is a 1985. That makes it an MR. The ratio (originally) was 1.50:1. All drives on Mercruisers have used the same prop end of the prop shaft, so any prop that is correct for "Mercruiser" (from about 1964 to current!) will fit.

The engine is a GM305.

Ok.. your other numbers. The 90... numbering was only used on outboards made in Belgium... ??? The 69... number is still an MR....
