I figured i would start a new thread since the other was so far back and the top cap is already removed, from here on in i'll stick to this thread...

After a little work securing wires and dragging a engine hoist to the boat i finally got the top cap removed and it was easier than i thought, pulling the top half of a boat is way easier than i thought...here are some pics

I saw another guys resto on a Baja and he cut the transom down to the deck and didnt go down any further, instead of cutting the deck out...the book i have recommends to cut the floor 24" back and take the whole transom out is this correct ??

Re: Baja restoration

Looks like you can replace the transom plywood without cutting the deck, but there could be something I don't see.

max!

Re: Baja restoration

Hey how long was your stringer?

Did it go past the large square piece you have to cut to get the transom out?

Mine kind of vanished back there so I'm not sure what to rebuild.

That bow tank is kind of wild, mine has a tank that sits on that piece in the rear.

It will be cool to see the difference at different fuel levels as we dial them in.

Don't forget to replace that bow eye while you can get to it.

Re: Baja restoration

i will measure tomorrow to see how far the stringer is away fron the drain plug for you, i dont have the whole floor out yet..i didnt want to do it until i get the transom done and the cap put back on.. so i wouldnt have to worry about the hull losing its shape, and i am planning to do the Bow eye (might as well while i'm there)...i will post back the measurements tomorrow, i also ordered my fiberglass and roller today and i'm going to check with local shops to see if i can get the resin cheaper !! maybe i can get started putting it back together this weekend :)..dang if he got it for that price, thats pretty cheap, then he stole it
