Baked on wax...how do you remove it?

Well I waxed the boat over the weekend. My brother was helping and on some spots caked it on. Well the sun baked it on and I can't even remove it with a drill and buffer. Guys, it's baked on big time. It doesn't look too bad as my hull it white (thank God). The use of the buffer just seems to melt it down but you can still see the swirl marks from the applicator. Anyway, I used mother's carnauba formula for boats, cars, and aircraft. Any suggestions on how to remove it or should I just leave it as it is and hopefully it will wear off?

Apply more of the exact same wax right over the baked on wax. Wait 5~10 minutes and buff off. Do NOT do this in the sun. Had the same issue on a car once, had to do this twice to make it look good again. What a bummer, working hard to make the boat/car look better and make a mess:( The sooner you do this the better off you will be!

If you need to get somewhat "drastic" two options.

Miguires makes a "Wax and Greese" remover. Its a liquid you can rub on the areas to break down the wax. If that doesnt work, 3M makes an "Adhesive" remover that is fantastic for removing glue etc.. That would probably do it. The 3m stuff it powerfull, but harmless to fiberglass. I just used the same thing (except the actual "Woodgrain and Vynal Strip remover) to take pin stripping off my '89 Four Winns. It worked like a charm.

Good Luck

-Dave

Thanks guys. Yep, you go to all that work and then its twice the work to get it right. Well someone suggested Acetone. I tried it and the wax came right off. Its on thick. I will need a load of towels to get the job done. Then I think I will use a wipe on wax or non wax like Nu finish.

You could also use a medium cut oxidation remover then rewax the spot. Quick and easy especialyy if u r using power tools to wax it.
