Ball Gears "Knuckle Gears' 74 OMC

[74 Fantasy]

Had to do emergency reapairs on our 1974 OMC 165 straight 6 cyl. Think we put the ball gears one to the left or one to the right when we put the outdrive back on. We have noticed a clacking noise at trolling speed, and it seems there is new wear on the gears. Should we try to cange them back after about 30 hours of use? or let them re-wear together. We don't want to have to replace them any sooner then possible. Going on family vacation and hate having boat problems. Thanks 74 Fantasy

Welcome to Iboats...!<br /><br />After 30 hours of use, I doubt changing it back will help, but it probably won't make matters worse than they already are.<br /><br />You are looking at a new set in the near future.
