Re: ballast resister

I am pretty sure you do not use the external resister when the coil has an internal resister.

If I am wrong someone correct me.

Jeff

Re: ballast resister

Hi Nikk.

My recent problems have prompted me to perform some ignition work that relates to your question so I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Another consideration here is what too much voltage across the coil primary can do to certain types of distributor modules. My Mallory breakerless wants to see 9 volts plus/minus a volt from coil plus to ground. It warns that exceeding these specs will eventually fry it. I'd suggest checking what your distributor setup calls for and running a voltage check from coil plus to ground to see what you've got. You can always add the resistor just to keep the distributor happy if necessary.

Hope this is helpful in some fashion.

Regards, crt.

Nikk,

CRT's thread "more mysterious behavior" is worth a read if you haven't already.

I had fun reading it and it was cool you found the problem.

jam
