I'm storing a friend's rubber dinghy, it's covered with barnacles, shell fragments etc. Is there a home solution solvent for barnacle removal?

Re: Barnacles

hestons - I would be careful of any home remadies. Most of the suggestions involve a lot of scraping and use of acid (for fiberglass). I would contact the manufacturer. If you don't know who that is, contact Zodiac and tell them of your problem. Others may have some good ideas but I would be concerned about what they would do to the fabric and seams.

Bar Nickels...Most often a good high pressure washer will work very well.

Barnacles are tough to remove. You can scrape them off but it still leaves the "adhesive line". I don't think I'd try anything harsher than pressure washing on this type of boat. After it dries out good, try some WD-40 to see if it will get up under the adhesive and release it. Let it soak.

Thanks for the tips. Anyone remember the "Odd Couple" episode where Oscar's dentist discovers the miracle barnacle glue? It released it's hold when exposed to moisture, after trying to get these damned things off of this dinghy I'm thinking they had a pretty good idea.
