base timing for 2.5L with EST

MerCruiser 2.5L S#5741396 (1980ish) that originally used points and has been changed to an EST ignition system. Was wondering what the base timing was for this model if it has been changed to an EST, with points I believe it was set to 8*BTDC. Does it stay the same with an EST system?

I would set it the same as points at 8 BTDC

Ayuh,.... The motor don't care how ya make the spark, but it wants it at the same time regardless,...
