Hi Guys, I just bought a bass boat with a 150 Johnson sight unseen and untested (repo bargain) (I know but willing to chance it), anyway I'm told there are no manuals the sales guy gave me compression numbers (120) for four cylinders. Shouldn't this be a six cylinder motor the number designation on the motor is J150plss. It will need a prop. How do I find out which one is standard and where can I find owners manuals for the boat and motor? Thanks

Re: Basic motor info

Ahoy, Z.

Yes. There are 6 cylinders in a 150. That one is a 2000 model, by the way. Not OMC's best year by a long shot, but enough time that build problems have probably been fixed. (I wonder what psi was on the other 2 cylinders).

The is no such thing as a "standard" prop for that engine. The correct prop depends on the characteristics of the boat. If you give us details on that we may be able to suggest a suitable starting point for prop selection.

For manuals, Owners and Repair, try www.kencook.com.

Good luck. :)
